Franken and Conason Proved Right - Again
BushCo is 100% Politics; 0% We-Give-a-Shit-About-the-USA
Early into this administration (sic) we learned their number one focus is politics. Foreign and domestic policy, fiscal practices... everything is trumped by politics itself.
Thus we have a Whitehouse who only gives a shit about this NSA wiretap whistleblower because of the politics involved. The fact he went to the NYTimes is not what prompted the WH to act; the fact we the people now know about the wiretapping is what prompted them to act.
The NYTimes has known about NSA's wiretapping for a year. If Bush actually gave a shit about national security he wouldn't have waited until the NYT published the story to go after the whistleblower.
What a bunch of clowns we have running this country. If the Democrats actually had some balls we would never have gotten into this dangerous situation.
Why Murtha Scares the GOP
It's not as simple as you might think.
As I said in my last issue, eleven Iraq War vets are running for congress this year. Ten of them oppose Bush's policies. Bush's approval ratings among African-Americans is higher than that with Iraq War vets.
And Jack Murtha is scaring the shit out of the Republicans.
These two facts are more closely related than you might think.
Anyone who's served knows no active duty serviceman or servicewoman who values his/her career will stand up and say the things that need to be said when he or she feels their president is fucking up. Keep that in mind, and consider the inordinate ratio of Iraq War vets running as Democrat this November. The military is, quite obviously, extremely dissatisfied with George W. Bush.
(1) Jack Murtha spent 34 years as a Marine, and retired a Colonel. That's one step below General. Murtha is a Congressman - in many ways one or more steps above a General. (2) You don't spend half your life in the military, and then advance to the House of Representatives without establishing some close, personal friendships and alliances. (3) Thus, Murtha has many friends at the Pentagon, and in the field, and I guarantee you they're not Privates pulling KP duty at the Hotel Abu Ghraib.
My point is this : Murtha is acting as liaison between the Whitehouse and frustrated military leadership. This is why he scares the GOP so much.
The GOP may whine about "the liberal press" giving Murtha too much credit/airtime, but it's the fact so many military folks are obviously opposed to Bush that scares the Rapture-ublicans.
Just some insight from a guy who's been around.
