The Most Powerful Smell in News
11 January 2006
The Shout Heard 'Round the a.m. Dial
The delusional right on the delusional Reagan

Ronald Reagan did not defeat the USSR.  America did.

The fall of the USSR was a long time coming, and every
administration from Truman through George Herbert Walker
Bush played its part (despite the fantasies of many neocons,
the fall of the Berlin wall occurred during Bush 41, not Reagan).
To say Reagan was responsible for defeating the USSR shows
an incredible lack of historical understanding; it's like saying
MTV was responsible for Elvis Presley's success.

Truman created the doctrine through which all future US
presidents approached the USSR. JFK defuzed the potential
for a horrific WWIII in 1962. Jimmy Carter successfully enacted
the SALT-II Treaty with Brezhnev. And so forth.

Yes, a senile sack of Clairol-dyed prunes stood there and yelled
"bring down this wall" a couple years before it actually happened,
but if you actually think that makes him THE force that knocked
the wall down, then you're probably as senile as Reagan was the
day he said it.

If you stand up at the Superbowl thirty seconds before it ends, and yell, "Indianapolis Colts - Win This Game!" you've gotta be pretty far removed from reality to think you actually made it happen.
John Stuart Mill Was Correct
The Vast Majority of Idiots Are Philosophically and Politically Conservative
I wonder what Mill said about crooks...

John Stuart Mill was correct -while some conservatives are smart, most stupid people are conservative. That's no opinion - that's a fact.

They can't type without resorting to the caps lock key, or slinging numerous grammatical aberrations. They think the universe is 6,000 years old. They can't comprehend (and therefore loathe) evolution. They can't grasp abortion -- like the death penalty -- is a necessary evil.

They're light-years behind the rest of the world. In the 60s they bristled at the site of the miniskirt -- now their "reporters" on Fox wear miniskirts. They get emotional over silly shit, threaten to sue department stores for using terms like "Happy Holidays," and think warantless wire tapping is perfectly within the law.

But they're more aggressive and dirtier than the Democrats. And thanks to Reagan, who removed the fairness doctrine from journalism, they've finally managed to lie their way to the top.

Thus we are currently in the situation we're in - the country's going to shit because it's being run by crooks and retards.

If you're on the right in today's America you either have no brain, or you have no shame.

Eleven veterans of the War in Iraq are running for office this year.  Nine are Democrats, one belongs to the Democrat-Farmer-Labor party of Minnesota, and one -- only one -- is a Rapture-ublican.

One of the eleven Iraq War vets running for office so far this year supports George W. Bush.  Bush's approval rating is higher among African-American voters than with Iraq War vets.

We've still got a long way to go; the number will increase.  I predict no fewer than twenty candidates for Congress/the Senate this year will be Iraq War vets who oppose Bush.

The ten who oppose his policies are

Andrew Horne, Marine Corps Lt Colonel  (D - Kentucky)
Timm Dunn, Marine Corps Lt Colonel  (D - North Carolina)
Paul Hackett, Marine Corps Major  (D - Ohio)
Chris Carney, Navy Lt Commander  (D - Pennsylvania)
Tammy Duckworth, Army Major  (D - Illinois)
David Ashe, Marine Corps Major  (D - Virginia)
Bryan Lentz, Army Major  (D - Pennsylvania)
Patrick Murphy, Army Captain  (D - Pennsylvania)
Andrew Duck, Army Captain  (D - Maryland)
Tim Walz, Army Sergeant Major  (DFL - Minnesota)

Maybe some day I'll run for office...

2006 - The Year of the Veteran
Hey, that suits me fine!
If exposing the NSA's wiretaps was illegal, why did Bush wait until the NYTimes published the story - a year later - to go after the whistleblowers?
