Reclaiming Patriotism

Obviously, I'm no conservative.  But I am a Veteran.  And I'm a patriot.  I'm someone who loves, supports, and defends my country.

But the neocon would have you believe anyone who ascribes to a
progressive ideology is no patriot.  Never mind the distinction between
what our country is and who is currently running the country.  Criticize
the administration, or question its integrity, and you're guilty of Treason!

But wait a minute.... doesn't anyone remember the 90s?  I do.  I was
in Europe putting bombs on Bosnia.  In support of my boss, the President.
Same as I'd done for Republican presidents in the past.

(Continued below)
Opens in a new window.
But, thanks to talk radio & networks like FOX News, the right have managed to have it both ways.  Their criticisms of President Clinton and his foreign policy notwithstanding, since 2001 the neocons have summarily portrayed the criticism of the President and his foreign policy as inherently Treasonous.

However, this won't last.  People aren't as dumb as Sean Hannity; they're catching on.  According to a recent Zogby Poll, a majority of military families perceive the administration as anything but favorable.
Bill O'Reilly's Biography
I think it's just a matter of time before we lefties have a real opportunity to reclaim some patriotic ground.

The next time a Democrat in the White House moves us to war, I suspect the motivation won't be oil, greed, or some personal vendetta/Freudian penis-envy father complex.  I suspect it'll be for the right reasons.  And I seriously doubt the Dildo O'Reilly's of the world will be wise enough to keep their lips zipped.

Now we just have to prime the apolitical world for the meaning of the inevitable spectacle of hypocrisy to follow.
And now it's time for...
Letters from people who think

Dear Mr. Fuhrman,
I recently watched the t.v. movie (for the 6th time) about your work on the Martha Moxley case but this time I noticed a sense of regret and change that was added to you. You were talking to the former detective and you mentioned the lying about the use of the n word plus you seemed to be saying you saw yourself as too sure of yourself. We all know that O.J. is a double murderer but you said that because of your lies you allowed the trial to be taken off of him and put on you (I may be paraphasing). I was wondering if you have had a change of heart of years of pondering on everything you did and all that you have seen. You are too intelligent to be led astray by racial or ethnic or economical backgrounds to hinder the truths and I was hoping you have been able to rise above all that plus your own intelligence. I, too, have been a victim of my own (perceived) above intellectual capacity to those around me in my area of nursing. I have had to learn the hard way and now fight the feeling almost every day. I do hate ignorance and pray to know the difference. I wish you and your family all the best and hope you continue to do good just the way you did with Martha Moxley. People who aren't afraid of what others say about them as long as they know they are doing the right things are just what we need. Good luck.

This is an actual letter I received from someone who wrote to "webmaster@fauxnewschannel.com," apparently thinking she was writing to the real FOX News.  I've got tons of similar letters from gullible FOX News fans.
